Heritage Intermediate
Academy (Grades 5-6)
Heritage Junior High Academy
(Grades 7-8)
Program Purpose:
- Redesigned for the 2010-2011
school year to meet the needs of a wide range of student abilities and
prior educational programs from around the world
- Developed to ensure
content mastery in language arts, math, science and social studies
Placement of students:
- All students grades 5-8 take
assessments at the beginning of each semester in reading and math to
determine placement in either the Intermediate
Academy or the Junior High
Academy
- Students will be placed in
the Intermediate Academy if working
approximately at grade 6 or lower reading levels
- Students will be placed in
the Junior High Academy if working approximately at grade 7 or higher
reading levels
- Should assessments
indicate a student is working significantly above or below grade level for
a given content area, placement will be made to ensure student success
- Students may move between
the two academies at semester based on test results
- Testing will provide a
common starting point given that students arrive from a variety of
different educational programs and to ensure that students don’t have to
repeat what they have already mastered nor do they skip what they have not
yet mastered
- Students exit the Junior
High Academy into the high school program at the end of successful
completion of grade 8 with a C- average or better
