Gloria Shoemaker
Gloria Shoemaker: Head of School
Ms. Shoemaker earned her M.S. from Indiana University in Secondary Education and also holds certification in English education, gifted/talented education, and ESL instruction. She spent thirty years in international education on four continents building an extensive teaching and professional leadership and administrative background. She possesses a broad understanding of North American and international education systems. Ms. Shoemaker serves as Head of School.
Dean Costakis
Dean Costakis: Guidance Counselor
Mr. Costakis is a graduate of Purdue University, holding a BA in elementary education and a teacher certification in the states of Indiana and South Carolina. Mr. Costakis moved to Hilton Head Island in May of 2004 from the Chicago area. This will be his fourth year teaching in South Carolina. He currently serves as the guidance counselor for Heritage Academy. Mr. Costakis' passions include teaching, playing tennis, drums, and guitar.
Tina Sprouse
Tina Sprouse: Director of Admissions
Ms. Sprouse graduated from Mars Hill College located near Asheville, North Carolina, with B.S. in Business Administration. After volunteering for a year in the admissions department, she worked as the Administrative Assistant until September, 2006 when she became the Director of Admissions.
Kristin Fields
Kristin Fields: Administrative Assistant to the Head of School
Mrs. Fields was born in Hershey, Pennsylvania and later moved with her family to Pinehurst, North Carolina. She graduated college from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Before moving to Hilton Head Island, she worked at Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina as the Campus Life Assistant. She has been with Heritage Academy as an administrative assistant since September 2006.
Lisa Giovannitti
Lisa Giovannitti: Receptionist
Ms. Giovannitti comes to Heritage from New Jersey where she served as confidential aide to a New Jersey legislator performing varied duties. She brings many skills and breadth of knowledge to her position as afternoon receptionist.
Terry Zawacki
Terry Zawacki: Receptionist/Clerical Assistant
Mrs. Zawacki holds a B.A. degree in elementary education from Kean University. Before moving to Hilton Head, Terry was the administrative assistant and attendance officer for eight years at Kawameeh Middle School in Union, New Jersey. She has served as receptionist at Heritage since 2002.
Diane Bass
Diane Bass: Art and Science
Mrs. Bass is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in Secondary Education. Diane was 'Teacher of the Year' at Heritage Academy for the 2006-2007 school year and was honored by the Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. Diane teaches art and science at Heritage Academy and also teaches for the Hilton Head Art League and has had two one-person art shows and won a 1st Place award in the 2007 HHAL National Art Exhibition.
Lee Bracken
Lee Bracken: Math and Business Management
Mr. Bracken played on the golf team at Illinois College where he graduated with a B.A. degree in Math and Business Administration. He has an MBA from Northern Illinois University and completed the Secondary Teacher Certification program in Mathematics at Central Connecticut State. Prior to his teaching career, Mr. Bracken spent 18 years working in the catalog industry for EGI in a variety of management positions, including six years as President/CEO.
Melony Bradley
Melony Bradley: English
Mrs. Bradley earned a B.A. in Education/French from Waynesburg College and has taken graduate courses in English and Psychology from Loyola University and the University of South Carolina. Mrs. Bradley is a certified teacher with extensive classroom experience in Pennsylvania, Louisiana, and South Carolina. She is the recipient of the Hilton Head Island Rotary Club Master Teacher Award in 1989, 1993, 2002 and 2003. She has taught middle school and high school English at Heritage Academy since February 2000.
Connie Cranford
Connie Cranford: ESL
Ms. Cranford is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire with a B.S. in elementary education. She also holds an M.Ed from the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire with a special emphasis in middle level education. Ms. Cranford was an elementary and middle school teacher in Wisconsin for over thirty years teaching in the content areas of English, reading, math, and social studies. She was also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire where she taught education classes and supervised student teachers. She joined the Heritage Academy staff in 2010.
Liz Dimmling
Liz Dimmling: Math
Mrs. Dimmling holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Hofstra University and an M.B.A. from the Univ. of N. Florida. Prior to her work as a College Placement Counselor at The Bolles School, Liz was Assistant Head at Bartram School. Liz was awarded the Klingenstein Award from Columbia University and was the recipient of a Fulbright fellowship in '89-'90. She began teaching high school mathematics at Heritage in 2005.
Sarah A. Hobson
Sarah A. Hobson: Social Studies and English
Ms. Hobson holds a B.A. from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro and a M.Ed. from Boston University and is a certified teacher. She has taught at Florida State University, and in public and private schools in New England and the South. Ms. Hobson is a published author in the field of adult literacy and has also written professional training manuals.
Lynne Kratochvil
Lynne Kratochvil: French and Math
Mrs. Kratochvil has over 30 years teaching and administrative experience in the public school systems of Florida and Georgia. She received her B.A. in Elementary Education from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, and later earned her master's degree in Educational Leadership. She has taught kindergarten through high school in math, English, social studies and foreign language. She joined the Heritage Academy faculty for the 2008-2009 school year.
Jerri Pautler
Jerri Pautler: Art
Mrs. Pautler has a BA in Art Education with a minor in Art History from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She taught in the Carbondale School District for 14 years before moving to Hilton Head and teaching in the Elementary School here for 16 years. For 5 years she taught at S. Francis where she was chosen as the Teacher of the Year. Many of her students have gone on to attend The Governor’s School for the Arts here in South Carolina as well as several art schools through the years. She started at Heritage Academy, Fall 2010.
Kathy Seyalioglu
Kathy Seyalioglu: Science
Mrs. Seyalioglu earned her B.S. in Chemistry from Drew University and her M.F.A. from Savannah College of Art and Design. Prior to moving to Hilton Head, Mrs. S. and her family lived thirteen years in Istanbul, Turkey, where Kathy worked as a professional equestrian trainer at a large riding club.
Tracy Sklarin
Tracy Sklarin: Math
Mrs. Sklarin is a graduate of Georgia State University with a B.S. in Mathematics Education and started her career at Columbia High School in DeKalb County, Georgia. After a few years, she followed her other passion, swimming, and became a year round swim coach at Dynamo Swim Center. She later returned to teaching at St. Martin’s Episcopal School in Atlanta, Georgia, where she taught fifth grade math before beginning at Heritage Academy.
Ted Zawacki
Ted Zawacki: Social Studies
Mr. Zawacki graduated from Wake Forest University with a B.A. in History and from Syracuse University with a M.S. in Physical Education. He was the Heritage Academy Teacher of the Year in 2004-2005 and the SCISA Teacher of the Year in 2006-2007. He began teaching Government/Economics, U.S. History and World History at Heritage Academy in 2002.
Jenny Zmarzly
Jenny Zmarzly: Language Arts and Public Speaking
Jenny Zmarzly holds a B.S. Ed. from Ohio University and a Masters in Curriculum Instruction and Design from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). She worked with the Elementary Science Integration Project (ESIP), a teacher research project for curriculum integration. She has presented at National Science Teacher Conventions and local conventions and has led teacher in-service workshops. Jenny was a classroom teacher for many years with Baltimore City Public Schools. She was also an academic tutor, adjunct instructor, and teacher supervisor with Carroll County Community College and UMBC.
