October HOPE in PINK Raises Awareness

Spearheaded by Senior Alana Brand and Junior Bria’ Sanders, October’s “HOPE in PINK” campaign draws supporters of breast cancer awareness and philanthropy. HOPE permeates the halls of Heritage with weekly bake sales; pink clothing contests; bracelet, ribbons, and footprint sales; and other ways to raise funds for breast cancer research and to remind us all that this disease touches every one of us through family or friendship. Thank you, Alana and Bria’, for your time and dedication to such a wonderful cause, and thank you, Heritage school community, for supporting this with your participation and generosity! HOPE…IS ALIVE. Think Pink!

Landino Lands Student of the Month Award

Olivia Landino

Olivia Landino is the September recipient of Heritage Academy’s AM Student of the Month Award. The faculty selected Olivia, a senior, because she demonstrates the virtue of humility daily without fail and is most helpful in ensuring that her classmates find success too. Although she would never admit it, she is a class act and super student. Congratulations, Olivia, on your many successes at the school and on the golf links!

Humility Rewards Peter Cho

Peter Cho

Senior Peter Cho was selected as September’s Student of the Month by the PM faculty based on his daily demonstration of one of the school’s core values: Humility. Never letting anyone know how demanding a responsibility it is to do so very well in both his academics and in his golf training is simply Peter’s way. Taking his accomplishments in stride and without thought of reward or recognition is simply Peter’s style. Here’s to you, Peter! Congratulations.

MS Student of the Month Goes to Olga!

September Student of the Month for the Middle School is Olga Zavarotnaya . The honor code value  this month was Humility. Olga’s teachers selected her for demonstrating a graciously humble and helpful nature in and out of class. Congratulations to you, Olga!

Heritage Students Honored by Mayor for Community Service


Hilton Head Mayor Drew Laughlin began “The Mayor’s Youth Volunteer Service Award”  to honor middle and high school student who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspired others to engage in volunteer service.  To be recognized for this award, a student must have completed at least 50 hours of community service between May 1, 2011 and April 30, 2012.  Four Heritage Academy students were presented the Award by Mayor Laughlin at a special Awards Ceremony held Monday, May 14, 2012.

Bronze Level – 50 hours, Silver Level – 51-100 hours

Heritage Academy student Sydnee Wheeler – 58 hours

Heritage Academy student Spencer Woolfolk – 55 hours

Gold Level – 101-150 hours

Call to Service Level – over 150 hours  Three students achieved this award, and two were from Heritage Academy: Nicholas Wheeler – 399 hours and Tara Bianco – 151 hours

AM Program Students of the Month


Senior blue chip tennis “ace”, Katie Hoch, middle school modern dancer Lily Green, and international golfer Tennoshin Ogawa were recognized by faculty for their consistent show of “Effort”, the honor code value featured for April. These three students pour tremendous amounts of effort into their grueling passion-area schedules as well as into their academic pursuits. Congratulations to each for modeling what a scholar-athlete and scholar-performing artist is capable of doing with such grace and achievement under pressure.

Spencer Woolfolk Honored for Generosity


Spencer Woolfolk, grade 11, accepted the PM Student of the Month award for Generosity at an all-school assembly last week. Spencer shows a generous spirit every day in every class and is consistently generous in his gift of time for others, the sharing his talents and ideas, and his kind show of understanding others’ customs and points of view. Congratulations to you, Spencer!

Rotary Club’s Outstanding Students of the Year


Congratulations to Nicholas Wheeler, grade 8, and to Ashley Kitchen, grade 12, for being recognized as outstanding middle school and high school students at the Hilton Head Rotary Club. Well done! We are proud of you.

Generosity Award Goes to Rebecca Warth


For her consistent display of generosity, Heritage Academy’s March Student of the Month award was bestowed upon Rebecca Warth, a sophomore equestrian in the morning program. Faculty decided upon the honoree based upon the many facets of generosity and specifically Rebecca’s generous spirit and attitude. Her kindness, respect for all, classroom assistance, and her practice of putting the needs of others before her own are evident on campus on a daily basis. Congratulations to you, Rebecca!
