Mrs. Sklarin’s statistics classes held their own version of the Olympics on Monday, Feb 23. Each student came up with an event idea that would last about a minute and could be described by a normal curve. They invited the other students in the school to come and take part in the events. It was a fun way […]

Mrs. Sklarin’s Algebra 2 class utilized technology to explore transformations in graphing. The students used a TI-Nspire program to investigate how changing the coefficients and constants change the graph of a function. We were able to move the graphs around by changing one value at a time. The calculator did the heavy lifting and we […]
When you are having fun, time is said to “FLY.” When you are waiting for something, time seams to slow down. On Friday, Mrs. Sklarin’s Statistics classes tried to wait a minute to stop the clock. Each student tried to time a minute three times. Some students were very reliable with their “minutes” while others […]
It was an early morning as the ten students from Heritage Academy boarded the bus to Sumter, SC for the 2015 SCISA High School Math Meet. We fielded two teams this year having five students from the morning session and five students from the afternoon session. Sponsors Mrs. Sklarin and Mr. Bracken determined the two […]
The Heritage Academy Chapter of the National Honor Society inducted five new members and installed new officers on the evening of Tuesday, December 9, 2014. The ceremony was held at Heritage Academy in one of our classrooms. We had a wonderful violinist play several times throughout the ceremony. Several of our current NHS members spoke […]
The students in Mrs. Sklarin’s Precalculus class had fun today making graphs for the Trigonometry functions. They are learning about the unit circle and how it connects the Sine, Cosine, Tangent, along with the Seceant, Cosecant, and Cotangent. We explored how the graphs are created by moving along the unit circle with the “Wolfram CDF […]
The students in Mrs. Sklarin’s geometry class had fun while exploring fractals and tessellations. They saw how math and nature are aligned with the Fibonacci numbers by counting pine cone spirals and petals on flowers. We discussed the golden ratio and how it is used in art. The recursive nature of the Fibonacci sequence inspired […]
The Heritage Academy chapter of the National Honor Society elected officers. The 2014 President is Will White, the Vice President is Will Miles, the Secretary is DJ Green, and the Treasurer is Brett Inserra. We would like to congratulate these wonderful students on accepting the responsibilities of being an officer. Our New member induction and […]
The Geometry students at Heritage Academy enjoyed their lesson on special segments in triangles. They took part in a hands on lesson to bring the vocabulary to life. They folded different types of triangles in four different ways to create the special segments. The students used the tools of math in their construction to get […]
The students in Mrs. Sklarin’s Precalculus class are hard at work using the “Pearson MathLab.” They are able to complete assignments online with options for watching examples, working through examples with assistance, or trying additional similar problems. It is like having a personal tutor at their disposal.
