U.S. History and Current Events

Mr. Zawacki’s U.S. History students composed a Current Events essay regarding the epic bankruptcy of the city of Detroit.   Discussions took place regarding how and why this occurred and who the bankruptcy impacts.

The rich history of Detroit and the government’s plan for resurgence were also widely discussed.

Mr. Zawacki Hosts Holiday Debate

A debate was conducted in United States History class regarding the current status of Columbus Day.

The Question:  Should Christopher Columbus be so honored and given a special day of commemoration?

The affirmative took the position that Columbus was a genuine hero whose legacy deserves special recognition, while the negative viewed Columbus as a terrorist; one guilty of genocide and unworthy of acclaim.

The affirmative won the debate on points.
